Annual Regional Juried Art Exposition - August 2020

DAC Sponsors 3 Juried Art Events Annually! 

The following are the rules and requirements for entering the 2020 Downtown Artists Co-Op Regional Juried Art Exposition. Please read the prospectus carefully, as several noteworthy changes have been made to accommodate COVID-19 requirements.

Artists 18 years or older residing in Tennessee or Kentucky may enter. Work must have been completed within the past 3 years. All work must be original and not from published resource materials or produced in a workshop with the help of an instructor. No giclees or prints are allowed.

Completion of the entry form constitutes agreement by the entrant there shall be no liability on the part of the Downtown Artists Co-op or any members or sponsors for loss, damage, or destruction of any works. The insurance of artwork is the sole responsibility of the participating entrant. By entering this event, you give consent to the DAC to use imagery of the work in promotion of the event and of the Downtown Artists Co-op.

Artists may submit a total of 3 works. Categories are:
  1. Drawing: Graphite, Charcoal, Ink, Pastels, Markers, Pen, crayons, chalk, colored pencil
  2. Oil Media: Oil Paints, Oil Pastels, Water soluble oil paints
  3. Acrylic Media: Acrylic Paints, Acrylic Gouache, Acrylic Ink, Industrial Paints
  4. Water Media: Solid, liquid, or powder watercolor, Gouache, Tempera Paints
  5.  Mixed Media/Collage: At least 2 different Media, Collage, Montage, Experimental
  6. 3-D/Fiber Arts: Including but not limited to Pottery, Sculpture, Jewelry, Textiles, Wood

  • Two-D work: All two-dimensional work must be strongly framed and securely wired, ready for hanging. Saw-tooth hangers will not be accepted.
  • Three-D work: Sculpture and other three-dimensional art may not weigh more than 100 pounds. Top-heavy or unstable work will be disqualified. Fabric must be original design and hand done.

This is an open, non-juried entry exhibition. All entries are accepted and will be considered for awards. Cash awards will be given for Best of Show as well as First, and Second Place in each category. The award amounts will be based on entry fee receipts and sponsorships. Third Place Awards and Honorable Mention ribbons may be given at the discretion of the juror.

To assure the health and safety of entrants, patrons and DAC members, the following adjustments have been made to entry procedures, submission and pickup of artwork, and the opening reception and announcement of awards:

  • All entries and entry fees will be made online at
  • The Deadline for entry is 5:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 29.
  • Complete the online entry form.
  • Download and print the information tag form. Complete a form for each entry, assuring the entry numbers match the information on the entry form. Cut out the information tag forms and tape them to the back of the matching artwork.
  • Pay entry fee: $20 for first piece, $15 for second entry, and $10 for the third ($20, $35, or $45). Fees are non-refundable.
  • Upload a digital JPEG image of each entry. Images will be posted on the DAC website and Facebook page exactly as submitted.
    • Each image must be 72 dpi, with a maximum file size of 2 MB.
    • Two-dimensional work should be cropped to show only the artwork, without mat or frame.
    • Three-dimensional work should be photographed in front of a blank, neutral background and cropped tightly to the artwork.
    • Care should be taken to avoid glare on images.
    • Correctly orient the image as viewed, vertically or horizontally.
    • Rename the image file using the following format: Firstname Lastname - Work Title.  Example: John Doe - Fauna Discovered

  • Art must be delivered to the DAC Gallery, 96 Franklin Street, Clarksville, TN either Friday, July 31, between 1:00 and 5:00 or Saturday, August 1, between 11 A.M. and 4:00.
  • Entries will be checked to assure online entry procedure has been completed and entries meet specified requirements. Entries not meeting requirements will be disqualified from entry.
  • Social distancing and wearing masks will be observed.

As of the time of writing the prospectus, no opening reception is planned. If it is determined a live reception can be safely held, a notice will be sent to all participating artists and publicized locally. In lieu of a live reception, award winners will be announced via Facebook Live on the DAC Facebook page at 6:00 p.m. Thursday, August 6. Winners will also be posted on the DAC website along with a video of the juror’s comments about pieces chosen for Best of Show and First and Second place awards in each category.
The exhibit will be hung in the gallery from August 6 through August 29.  Additionally, artwork images will be displayed on the DAC website throughout the exhibition.

All entries must remain on display for the duration of the exhibit.  At the conclusion of the exhibit, work must be picked up and signed for at the gallery Friday, August 28 or Saturday August 29 between 11:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.  Social distancing will be observed during the pick-up process, and masks are requested.

Dean Shelton is a native of Arkansas and has been drawing since a child. He graduated from Arkansas Tech and studied at the Art Center College of Design in Los Angeles, California before moving to Nashville, Tennessee. After working as a freelance illustrator for over 30 years, he began the shift toward fine art in 2002. He had a working studio on the Row @ The Factory in Franklin for two years and is now working out of a studio in his home in Fairview, Tennessee.
