Beginning Watercolor

This is  a four class workshop series. Price includes all 4 weekly classes.

Participants will learn the basics of painting with watercolor and progress to completing paintings of their own.

Materials List:

 7 tubes of watercolor professional grade pigment (not student). Preferred brands:

Winsor Newton or Daniel Smith.

o Cobalt Blue

o French Ultramarine Blue

o Daniel Smith Quinacridone Red or Winsor Newton Permanent Rose

o Hansa Yellow Medium

o Lemon Yellow

o Daniel Smith Quinacridone Burnt Orange or Winsor Newton Burnt Sienna

 Watercolor palette with at least 7 compartments for pigment and a larger open area for

mixing colors

 Brushes for Watercolor (not acrylic or oil). Synthetic are fine.

o Flat brush 1 ½ inch wide

o Flat brush ½ inch wide

o Round brush size 10

o Round brush size 6

 Small spray bottle for water

 Container for water

 Roll of paper towels

 Roll of masking tape

 Pencil and Eraser

For the first 2 weeks at least, watercolor paper will be provided. Students may need to

bring watercolor paper for the last two sessions. Appropriate options will be discussed in

class.

Topics covered:

Week 1: Ways of putting paint on paper, controlling water

Week 2: Color theory, color mixing, glazing, applying skills to painting fruit

Week 3: Painting a simple composition with demonstration, reference photo and line

drawing provided.

Week 4: Painting from your own reference photos
