About the event
Step into the world of indigo with fiber artist Tamara Darnell Long in this beginner-friendly Shibori dye workshop. Shibori is a traditional Japanese resist-dyeing technique dating back to the 8th century, known for its beautiful, intricate patterns and deep cultural roots.
In this hands-on Itajime Shibori class, you’ll learn the fundamentals of folding and clamping fabric to create bold, geometric patterns, with an introduction to ice-dye techniques using vibrant indigo. We’ll focus on how resist is created through precise folds and pressure, then explore how dye interacts with the fabric to produce unique results. The techniques you learn can be applied to future textile—or even paper—projects, and you’ll leave with ideas for transforming your finished pieces into wall hangings, gifts, or functional art.
No experience is needed—just bring your curiosity, a willingness to explore, and wear something that can get messy. The only challenge? Deciding what to make next!
