About the event
Step into the world of indigo with fiber artist Tamara Darnell Long in this beginner-friendly Shibori dye workshop. Shibori is a traditional Japanese resist-dyeing technique dating back to the 8th century, known for its beautiful, intricate patterns and deep cultural roots.
In this hands-on Katazome Shibori class, you’ll learn how to create detailed designs using rice paste resist applied through stencils or piped patterns. We’ll explore how the paste blocks dye to form crisp imagery, then dye the fabric with vibrant indigo to reveal your design. The techniques you learn can be applied to future textile—or even paper—projects, and you’ll leave with ideas for turning your finished pieces into wall hangings, gifts, or functional art.
No experience is needed—just bring your curiosity, a willingness to explore, and wear something that can get messy. The only challenge? Deciding what to make next!
