About the event
Step into the world of indigo with fiber artist Tamara Darnell Long in this beginner-friendly Shibori dye workshop. Shibori is a traditional Japanese resist-dyeing technique dating back to the 8th century, known for its beautiful, intricate patterns and deep cultural roots.
In this hands-on Sashiko Shibori class, you’ll learn the fundamentals of traditional decorative stitching used to mend, reinforce, and extend the life of fabric. We’ll focus on simple stitch patterns, placement, and rhythm, exploring how Sashiko combines function with beauty. The techniques you learn can be applied to garment repair, visible mending, and future textile projects, and you’ll leave with ideas for incorporating Sashiko into functional art, wearables, or meaningful handmade gifts.
No experience is needed—just bring your curiosity, a willingness to explore, and wear something that can get messy. The only challenge? Deciding what to make next!
